Burkhart was a surprise for me...I thought McCallum had it in the bag.
ReplyDeleteStrange awards for the Minnesota pitchers...Handran (#1 starter, not on any team) and Buske (#2 starter, 3rd team) are both better than Seth Rosin (#3 starter, 2nd team).
ReplyDeleteNothing strange about it - look at the B10 stats.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to McCallum I think they looked at the wrong ballots. Burkhart is awesome however he wasn't better than McCallum.
Do you take Burkhart's defense into consideration when voting? He did throw out 11 of 26 base runners in conference play.
ReplyDeleteWas a huge part in the pitchers being as successful as they were.
The choice shocked me as much as anyone, heck I asked Aaron Fitt to decided between McCallum and Phegley.
What are the numbers each put but in conference games? I do know for a fact Burkhart was only the third best hitter on Ohio State's team, behind Dew and Miller.
BIG TEN STATS:
ReplyDeleteBurkhart- .350 BA / 22 RBI / .575 Slg% / 3 HR /
.461 OB%
McCallum- .440 BA / 36 RBI / .824 Slg% / 8 HR /
.514 OB%
Its pretty hard to argue against McCallum plus he is very under-rated as an infielder. As I mentioned earlier Burkhart is tremendous however McCallum was better this season.
I'm not sure Burkhart's D really set him apart because Phegley threw out 10 of 27 in conference play which was very similar to Burkharts numbers. Do you think McCallum wins if Minnesota wins that last game vs. PSU?
